Alrek Student Conference 2025

09:00 - 15:00

Midgard, Årstadveien 17, Alrek helseklynge

In 2025, we are celebrating the five-year anniversary of the Student Conference! We invite students from UiB, HVL, and VID to submit abstracts to present their bachelor's and master's theses related to health in a broad sense.

“Great preparation for exams,” “motivation to keep going,” and “confirmation that the project is important” are some of the responses from last year’s student conference organized by Alrek Health Cluster.

The conference is a meeting point for students, representatives from the field, and researchers. Here, students will present their master’s projects within the theme of health and society. Both students at the beginning and end of their projects are welcome to present.

The Student Conference is a unique opportunity for students to showcase their work, for professionals to meet those who will tackle future health and care challenges, and for bachelor’s students to get inspired for their master’s journey! Students have shared that condensing their project into a short 5- or 10-minute presentation helps them gain a better understanding of their own work and reinforces the sense of value and purpose in their project.

You can register for the conference here!
Registration deadline: May 28 at 11:59 PM.

Are you a student considering presenting your project plan or findings from your master? The call for abstracts is now open, and you can submit your abstract for the Alrek Student Conference here.
Submission deadline: May 12 at 11:59 PM.

What does it mean to present?

You can present your project plan to receive input and feedback, or present your conclusions or preliminary analyses. Those presenting a project plan will have 5 minutes, while those presenting analyses and findings will have 10 minutes.

A scientific committee will review the submitted abstracts, and you will receive a response in mid-May about whether you have been selected to present. Presenters will be grouped into different thematic symposia. The topics of these symposia will be defined based on the submitted abstracts. The main theme of the conference is health and society.

What do I gain from presenting?

Students report that narrowing their project down to a short 5- or 10-minute presentation gives them a better understanding of their own work and helps them see their project as important and meaningful.

Those selected to present will receive:
• Guidance in presentation techniques
• Practice standing on stage and presenting their own work
• Great preparation for oral exams
• Feedback from professionals, academia, and fellow students
• A chance to communicate a project you’ve spent a lot of time and thought on
• A clearer understanding of your key findings and research questions
• Lunch, social gathering, food and drinks with the other students after the conference!

• You can also be awarded a prize for best communication, best scientific quality, or for having the most work-life relevant project – the prize is NOK 1,500.

We see that students make tremendous progress in their communication skills after receiving guidance in presentation techniques – a skill that will be highly valuable in your future career. The training is provided by excellent communicators who have participated in the Researcher Grand Prix and received extensive training in science communication themselves.

Can I attend the conference without presenting?

Of course you can join! Everyone is welcome! We especially encourage students in health- or social-related fields at all levels, as well as staff from research, education, and the health, care, and social services sectors.

Other students attending will gain:
• Insight into what a bachelor’s or master’s thesis can look like
• Inspiration and new knowledge
• Opportunities to meet leaders and representatives from employers in health and care

Representatives from the field will gain:
• Up-to-date knowledge from students
• Opportunities to meet potential future employees
• A chance to support and challenge students with curious and thoughtful questions
• Insight into various study programs offered by cluster partners

In addition, community members with interest or experience in the health and care sector—as patients or next of kin—are more than welcome to attend!

When will the program be ready?

The program will be ready in mid-May.
